After "In The Zone", another success, Britney took a pause. While she was gone, the pop craze died down. Digital downloads became huge. Fans of pop music turned to iTunes and Limewire to download music. The older generation - fans of Country music - continued to purchase records, as did the large fanbase of Rap/R&B music. Along with this, kids-friendly pop (Hillary, Miley) continued to sell, as parents bought for their children.
In 2005 Christina Aguilara released "Back To Basics" - a double-disc album which introduced her new pop sound, which was released with heavy promotion. The record sold 346,000 copies in its first week, debuting at #2. These were the highest sales of Christina's career.
In 2007, Madonna - known as 'Queen of Pop' - released "Hard Candy", with a single featuring one of the most well-known and received men in music (Justin Timberlake) and produced by the biggest name in the industry (Timbaland). A promo tour took place before the release. 280,000 copies were sold in the first week.
Spears released "Blackout" in 2007, with only two forms of promotion - a much-mocked performance at the VMAs, and a lackluster video for "Gimme More". Britney was torn apart in tabloids, amidst a mental breakdown. The song still peaked at #3 (her highest since BOMT) and the album sold 290,000 in its first week: Higher than the "Queen Of Pop". Without effort.
2008:
Kanye West: 808s & Heartbreak - 450,145 [Rap/R&B]
Miley Cyrus: Breakout - 371,000 [Teen Pop]
Beyonce: I Am... Sasha Farts - 482,000 [R&B]
Taylor Swift: Fearless - 592,304 [Country]
Britney Spears: Circus - 505,000 [Adult Pop]
Britney Spears is the ONLY pop act still selling major records - ahead of the so-called "Queen", above the usually dominant Rap/R&B.With a #1 and #3 single thus far, a top 3 radio hit, and a an album at number 1 in several countries... the numbers speak for themselves.
Britney leads the pack of female pop artists.
Britney Spears, with "Circus", is the Queen of Pop

I can't say wether I agree or dissagree, but I can say that this piece of writing has convinced me to believe she is the Queen Of Pop. Yet, I can't take that title away from Madonna untill she's retired. Wich I hope will happen in the next ten years, because I do not want to see a 60 year old Madonna on stage in panties. No offence, I love you Madonna. You know I do.
